Randstad’s latest research made a significant discovery, but we are not surprised. Nine out of 10 Malaysians feel that their current skills do not meet today’s digitalisation.
Evidently, companies are also actively investing in digitalising their organizations. 81% of the respondents admitted that these technologies would have an impact on their job for the next five to 10 years.
Agencies such as the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) are proactively empowering businesses and the nation in making the digital leap.
Identifying the right digital skills
From individuals, to corporations, every bit of society should be relevant in the ever-advancing digital world. The first steps to being part of it, is to find out the ultimate goal.
As an organization, or even an individual, ask some of these questions:
- What do we want to achieve with digitalisation?
- In which areas are growth expected?
- How much costs can be reduced?
- To what extent do we want to automate productions or management?
- Have we set the right organizational culture for digitalisation?
By knowing the right direction, figuring out the digital skills needed to match that should be an easier path.
Digital upskilling cannot, and will not wait
If it is any time to adopt digitalisation, it is definitely now.
“Due to rising demand for digital tools and processes, there is an urgent need for Malaysians to appreciate the need to continuously upskill themselves with digital technologies, digital literacy, and transferable skills,” says country manager, Gan Bock Herm.
Skills that support roles in the workforce should be adjacent to digital strategies and capabilities of organizations. Technology is gradually replacing many of human’s manual functions. By having the right skills, livelihood of jobs can be sustained for the future.
